[ Another year, another birthday! It's funny how much time passes - this marks the third birthday of Jinwoo's they've celebrated together - but she's glad for it all the same. And today marks something a little different.

While she had gifted him the dagger she crafted not too long ago, she also wanted to put together something specifically for his birthday too. It what may now become a yearly tradition, the outdoor theatre has made a reappearance! With the firepit nearby it should keep it a little warmer too even as they go into the winter months, so they can keep this up for a bit longer.

Along with that are a few gifts for him she's made herself. With winter around the corner, she has branched into crafting a few more bits of winterwear along with brooch she had put together. Both are wrapped in paper of shiny black and purple... Though while Lapis holds one, a certain Bangboo who resembles a certain ant carries the other, excitement clear on his little face.

The odd little creature had just... turned up on their doorstep, but she's seen these Bangboo around town and he seemed friendly enough. Especially when she mentioned Jinwoo... ]

Ah, this is a new member of the house. He wanted to give one of your presents to you.

[ "Eh-nah!" ]

[ it's hard to believe he's been in the city for three whole years. he had thought this would have been just a fun break from Florida for a while until the Order inevitably called him back--and yet, here he was. Living his own life. Free, acting on stage again, and living with a Family. His family.

He loves the outdoor theatre. it's one of his favorite things about having a back garden, complete with its little protector (not so little, Gigalith is huge), and settling back here on important days like birthdays or fun holidays are his favorite way to wile away the hours they're not at work.

He's going through the little gifts that Lapis has gotten for him. His eyes all but glowing with delight as he looks at each one, carefully admiring all the embroideries and careful craftsmanships, immediately setting the brooch on the breast of the blazer he's currently wearing.

He's touching it quietly when his brain finally registers something else she's got next to her. Who carried the winterwear with such boastful grace.

His eyes flutter as his shoulders come up as he STARES at the creature. He almost drops the beautiful wrapping the brooch had come in. ]

Be...

[ the memory comes back to him like a gunshot. A huge ant, always at his side, always looking for his approval. All... tiny, now. and yet, looking every bit as desperate for praise. ]

Beru!?

You--where did he--
Where did you--!?

[ LAPIS EXPLAIN ]

[ Seeing how happy Jinwoo is with the gifts has her tail wagging, a gentle `thump-thump-thump` against the floor as he unwraps the gifts and his eyes keep lighting up at each one. Even now she's still a little nervous, always a little worried he won't like them, but of course he always proves her wrong - and she can't help but beam when he puts on the brooch immediately.

And then his focus turns to the little Bangboo staring at him - wide-eyed and expectant - and she blinks a couple of times when he seems to short circuit. Golden eyes glance between him and little guy, head tilting curiously as she puts together what's going on. "Beru", huh... ]

I'm guessing you recognise him.

[ Maybe the life from before? But she finds herself chuckling softly as Bangberu waves his little arms in excitement, a hand reaching over to gently pat him on the head. "Neh-nah! Ne-ne-nuh!" ]

I found by the front door, tucked into a box. I'm pretty sure he came from that one weird shop... It seems like he's really excited to see you.

[ Akira Ishida voice: "Eh-nah!!" ]

[ absolutely no chill here from Jinwoo--he's going to crouch down and pick up Beruboo--holding the little guy at arm's length to really look him over.

He's so... round and fat and... cute... ]

I do, but I don't, at the same time. He looks like someone who was a very important companion of my past life's self. Most of my memories are of me being dismissive to the guy, which makes me feel pretty bad for this little guy, too, if they're anything alike.
Beru just wanted awknowledgement and praise from the guy...

[ which, now, immediately, Jinwoo is gonna place Beru down on one of the pillows of the outdoor theatre cushion pile. He's gonna then pat his head. Good boy. ]

You've done well today, Beru. I'm proud of you, for helping Lapis carry all her heartfelt gifts.

[ Beruboo will wiggle his little arms and legs as Jinwoo lifts him up - big, sparkling purple eyes staring up at him expectantly. And Lapis hums a little as she listens, glancing between her fiancée and the little creature in his hands; it does seem like he's very eager for some praise.

Which he gets as he's placed down and given a pat on his little head, those sparkling eyes almost seeming like they're... tearing up? Somehow?? But clearly Beruboo is overjoyed. ]

I imagine he had his reasons to be dismissive, but... It does seem like Beru just really wanted some praise.

[ - Oh wait those eyes are being turned towards her now. She blinks owlishly, but she reaches over to give him another few pets on the head. Good boy, good boy. ]

Thank you for helping me, Beru. I really appreciate it.

[ Truly there has never been a happier Bangboo, and Lapis chuckles softly at how thrilled he is. ]

... He is really cute.

[ oh god oh fuck the little bug rabbit thing is crying come on man don't cry don't cry--Jinwoo's hands are flailing a little as he tries to figure out where to put his hands to make the little guy calm down and stop crying please don't cry--oh its looking at Lapis as she pets his head. Perfect. He looks so happy now... ]

Wow. You're right. He really does just ... like being praised and patted, doesn't he.

It's okay, Beru. I--we. Will make sure you get the recognition you deserve, okay? So don't be sad.

[ words Jinwoo in his past life had never said to beru but the insect certainly deserved to hear them. ]

[ Truly, this is the best day of Beruboo's life. Even now his eyes still shine with sheer joy, thrilled at the praise from both his liege and his betrothed. ]

Mmhm, Jinwoo is right. We'll make sure you're never ignored or dismissed, okay?

[ Pat pat pat, there there. Though when she lifts her hand away, the Bangboo seems be trying to... bow? Oh no, time for her to wave her hands too. ]

No, no, don't do that... [ Wow he's really... Enthusiastic. That's a good word. Cute and enthusiastic. Though what Jinwoo says about names has her pausing, brows raising slowly as her eyes drift over to him. ]

Sometimes. [ He is safe for two seconds, before - ] So if I put a black and white cat in front of you, what would you name them?

[ Maybe she should be nicer to Jinwoo since it's his birthday, but... There can be a little bullying. ]

[ look at how Beru reacts to such a small amount of praise and adoration; like the guy's been waiting a LIFETIME for it. It's so... ugh. it makes Jinwoo's heart hurt a little; and part of him wishes he could apologise to his past self's partner Beru.

But this'd have to do--for now. ]

Emotional little fellow... there, there. Buddy. [ and erk. There he goes, freezing as the other counter-attacks his claim with a sudden quiz.

Jinwoo mentally stalls. He's trying to think; and think hard. The first name that comes to mind is of course, Sylvester. Which, he knows he'd get laughed at if he says that. No. He can't.

Husk.

Wait, no, fuck he can't say that either. He opens his mouth and he almost says it, but he closes it immediately.

He... stares at Lapis, and he's completely unaware he's made this long, awkward pause as he STRUGGLES to give her a good answer. Help. He needs someone to restart him. ]

[ At least now they can give Beruboo the attention he deserves. It is very cute just how eager he is for praise from them; but from the sounds of it, he rarely got it before... So she'll give the Bangboo another little pat on the head, giggling gently at his pleased little wiggles, before watching as Jinwoo thinks over an answer.

The moment drags on, as she waits expectantly. What would you name a black and white cat, Jinwoo? Lapis wants to know what totally amazing and not at all silly name you'll think of.

And she's silent the entire time too, as he stares at her. Her expression completely flat as she awaits an answer she knows won't come.

Eventually she lets out a little huff, brows raising as she reaches over to pinch his cheek. Fine she'll give him some mercy. ]

I think I'll continue naming duties for the foreseeable future, jagiya.

[ ACK. Okay, the pinch does the trick. He blinks twice as if he realises he's been frozen in the thought, scrambling to think of a name.

Every single time he thought of one, all he could see was Lapis' dead-eyed stare. Help. HELP.

As he's pinched, one of the names looses out from between his lips. ]

[ HELP ]

[ The silence lingers, the pause drags on for longer.

And then her expression cracks; a smile tugging at the corner of her lips as she finds herself giggling. She lifts a hand to try to cover her mouth, attempting to not make it too obvious but the shaking of her shoulders gives her away. ]

Mmhmm, I think it is. But I still think you're cute, even if you are bad with names.

[ As much as she teases him about it - honestly it's one of his charm points to her, even if she makes faces. ]

And it's your birthday today, so I shouldn't bully you too much either.

I'll take cute over brilliant. Brilliant people are boring. They do stuff like say 'um actually' when you're just chilling or they feel the need to inform you on everything you try to do.

[ he's not bitter or anything. ]

[ Totally not bitter not at all. ]

That's right, they are boring. And I very much like you as you are now.

[ And her words trail off into another soft giggle. ]

And you'll get cake today. Let me just - [ Beruboo jumps to his little feet, staring at the couple with big eyes and an exuberant "Nu-Nah!" Lapis blinks, tilting her head, before slowly understanding what he's attempting to say. ]

Oh, would you like to get the cake? [ Nod, nod, nod!!! ] Thank you, Beru, it will be on the counter -

[ Oh there he goes, speeding off towards the kitchen. ]

... He really is eager.

[ ....look at him, gone, in a flash. less than a flash. he's running like there's consequences on his heels. it's almost concerning but also like... endearing...? ]

Either he really wants to prove himself or he really likes this sort of thing. I honestly cannot tell you which it might be. I hope he likes it.

[ because if he feels pressured or stressed he'd feel bad. ]

The gifts are gorgeous, as usual. You get better every time you make something new.

--Ah. Speaking of Gifts. The Skeleton dropped something off, too.
I haven't looked at it, yet.

I hope so too. We'll need to think of how to reassure him if he feels like he needs to prove himself though...

Though Lapis finds herself pausing at his words, cheeks heating up as he praises the gifts she's made. Her tail wags a gentle rhythm against the ground as she smiles softly again; trying to ignore how warm her cheeks have become. ]

Ah, I'm glad you like them. [ Even now she still gets a little flustered when he says things like that.

But she quickly stops getting all aflutter as she perks up, now very curious. ]

Oh, you should open it! Let's see what they brought you this year.

I love them. I almost can't wait for it to get colder so I have an excuse to wear them. The weather is almost too nice right now, as it stands...

[ he laughs a little, trying on the hat--it's comfortable, at least, and it fits perfectly, as he chuckles at how she'd even made little slots in the sides of it so his horns stick out perfectly... ]

Ahaha. That's part of why I saved it. So we could see it together. I half wonder if it'll be something weird or just another artifact from my past life.

I can't imagine what it'd be. [ he should have every idea.

As he moves to go get the case, which he'd left nearby Stone--giving him a hearty pat before returrning to Lapis, setting it between them.

It's like a briefcase, but it's intricately designed, with odd flame decals and a sheen that's reddish-gold.

He takes a deep breath and opens it... Revealing a pair of intricate, beautiful daggers inside. ]

It has been a little warmer than usual, though it makes me wonder if the winter will be really cold. Good thing I made those just in case it does.

[ Seeing him try on the hat has her perking up all over again. It's a relief to see that it fits perfectly, and that it sits comfortably against the horns too; present successful!

And now she shuffles closer to him once he's retrieved the gift, eyes bright and curious as she watches him open up the case. It has such an interesting design too, maybe she'll ask if she can look at it later -

- But it's what's inside that makes her eyes widen. Jinwoo receiving isn't much of a surprise in itself, but these really are incredible. ]
